Like the Escort sedans, the two-seater EXP got a revised location for reverse gear (below fifth gear).
Radios and cassette players showed a new flat-faced design, and the base engine was the fuel-injected 97.6 cid (1.6 –liter) four.
The Turbo Coupe was available again, wearing aluminum wheels with low-profile performance tires and Kino shock absorbers.

This was the EXP’s final season in its original form. Standard equipment included an AM radio,
tinted rear-window glass, halogen headlamps, digital clock, power brakes, tachometer, handling suspension,
remote locking fuel door, black bumper rub strips, black left-hand remote sport mirror, and black moldings.
Inside were low-back cloth/vinyl reclining bucket seats.
The EXP’s Luxury Coupe added an AM/FM stereo radio, interval wipers, luxury cloth seats with
four-way (manual) driver’s side adjuster, remote lift gate release, dual remote mirrors, rear defroster, and tinted glass.
Turbo Coupe included a front air dam, black rocker panel moldings, AM/FM stereo with cassette,
lower tu-tone paint/tape treatment, power steering, TR suspension and aluminum wheels, wheel spats, and a rear spoiler.

Sales rose 14 percent for the 1985 model year, partly as a result of incentive programs late in the season.
Ford’s market share rose to a healthy 17.2 percent up from 16 percent the year before.
All seven series showed an increase, let by Escort, which revealed a 21 percent rise. Tempo did well too.
Ford raised prices only 1.3 percent (average) this year, though Crown Victoria went up over 6 percent and Mustangs were actually cheaper.
